Product Spotlight: EasiLites Clip In Color

Last week, I asked you guys whether you would ever wear Printed Hair Extensions – you guys protested a loud NO WAY! C’mon, not even for Halloween??

Regardless, I got some of my own extensions – no, not the print kind, sorry, but they are colored, and they have definitely prompted my interest in hair extensions. I have been seriously craving a splash of color in my hair, especially with all the bold color moves we’ve been seeing lately from Katy Perry to Lauren Conrad to ombre color all over the fall runways. However, if you’re like me, you might not want color all the time, especially if you work in an office or like to change up your look a lot.

I tried some temporary hair streaks, and really liked adding color to my hair, but still, I’m a light brunette – bright color doesn’t show up very well! So now I tried some of these EasiLites clip in color extensions from

See below:

To be honest, I have no idea where I’ll end up wearing these, but Halloween is right around the corner, so all of  you gals wanting to add some craziness to your hair but are afraid of temporary dyes or are brunette like me, check these out!

A word to the warning, the extension shown in my picture is actually 4 separate extensions, they are each about 3/4ths an inch in width. It gives you a lot of flexibility in placement, and you can also mix a few different colors together seamlessly. I am such a fan of how easy these are to use, plus you can hot iron or curl them.

Any of you love extensions? What kinds have you used?

Streak for Cancer for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

We are now closing in on the end of the first week of October. Did you know that in addition to be my favorite month of the year, and also the month of the greatest holiday ever, Halloween, that October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Yes, October just got even greater! I didn’t think it was possible either.

In addition to all of your favorite products coming out with pink versions of themselves (I do believe I even bought a pink Britta water filter around this time last year, how can you resist, really), us beauty and hair crazed gals can indulge in pink in another way. Streak for Cancer is a fun way to show your support for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

By becoming either a participating salon that will host “streaking” events, or by getting “streaked” yourself, you will be raising awareness and funds for the cure. Streak for Cancer involves adorning your hair with pink tinsel streaks, which are chemical free and can be washed, blow dried, and styled just like your normal hair. What a fun way to show your support, and kid friendly!

3 Must Have Fall Pumpkin Hair Products

So, I jumped the gun on the first day of fall – I was convinced it was yesterday, but it’s actually tomorrow, September 23. Hey, I can’t cover up the fact that it’s my favorite season and I wanted it to officially start already!

My favorite part of fall? Pumpkins. I love pumpkins, perhaps an unhealthy amount – pumpkin carving, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin shaped tealights, pumpkin shaped placemats… I think you get the picture. When it comes to hair, I especially can’t resist pumpkin scented products. Here are a few of my must-haves to check out this fall.

Sexy Hair Pumpkin Products

Imagine my ecstatic state when I found out that Sexy Hair has a whole LINE of pumpkin hair products! Love, love, love. Smell great and work great. Unfortunately they have discontinued the Pumpkin Puree Mask and the Pumpkin Potion Leave-In Conditioner (tears) but the Rehydrating Shampoo, Detoxifying Shampoo, Conditioner, Enzyme Therapy Mist, and Whipped Souffle Styling Creme are all still available. And if you’re pumpkin crazy like me, you might also be interested in the Pumpkin Body Wash and Body Creme by Sexy Bath and Body.

DIY Pumpkin Deep Conditioning Mask

My last pumpkin product favorite isn’t actually a product you can buy – but it’s one you can easily make. I love hair masks, and came across this hair mask recipe on that is super easy to make and a perfect use of the leftover pumpkin gunk you may have after carving fall pumpkins ;). If you don’t carve pumpkins, canned pumpkin puree is easy to find (look by the pies in your grocery store!) and will work just as well as pureeing your own.

  • 1/2 cup of pumpkin – you can either use puree from the innards of your soon-to-be tossed Jack-o-Lantern, a can of pumpkin puree, or baby food.
  • 1/4 cup of yogurt
  • 2 tbsp of honey

“Put all ingredients in to bowl and PUREE. If you do not puree, you will be left with pumpkin chunks in your hair and you will regret it. Separate hair in sections and smooth from root to tip throughout entire head Once entire head has been pumpkin-ified, put on a showercap and leave on hair for about 20-30 minutes”

And a fun pumpkin fact left by the recipe creator, if you weren’t yet sold on the greatness of pumpkins:

Pumpkin contains over 100 beneficial nutrients and exceptionally high in beta carotene thus making it it an ideal ingredient for hair products.

What are your favorite FALL hair products? Have you tried any of my faves?

Secret Stands up to Bullying with “Mean Stinks” Campaign

Inner beauty feeds to your outer beauty – it’s an undeniable fact that no matter how much we primp our hair, smear on makeup, paint and repaint our nails… if our emotions are in a bad state, it shows. Whether we are young or old, in high school or driving a high schooler to the bus every morning, we have to deal with bullies in one form or another. These are the people who get us down on ourselves and let us believe that we aren’t good enough, pretty enough, or smart enough, and ever since bullying has become a hot button issue in schools, people have begun feverishly standing up to bullies young and old and putting a stop to bringing down others.

“Don’t wait for people to be friendly, show them how.”

“Stand up for whats right, even if you stand alone.”

These are just a few of the many positive quotes posted on the Facebook wall of Secret’s “Mean Stinks” campaign, an interactive social media force dedicated to spreading positive, kind words among – well, anyone and everyone.

Just take a peek at their Facebook, and you’ll find encouraging words, swapping of stories, calls for help, inspirational quotes, and more from the over 250,000 fans of the page.

Secret has also created a Facebook app where you can create and send “Good Graffiti” with the click of a button.

“It’s time to stop standing by, & start standing up to what stinks”

So true, Secret. To find out more on how to get more involved in this campaign, visit the Mean Stinks Facebook page – because beauty isn’t just about beautiful hair, the best mascara, or designer jeans.

It’s about what’s inside as well.

Would You Wear It? Adia Kibur Jumbo Hair Clip

I came across these the other day and thought WOW, how have I never seen this before? Released about a year ago by Adia Kibur, these giant hair clips can be found in Gold and Black – I have even seen people pictured wearing Red ones. They come in a set of two (as if you need two of these in your hair – you might be a little off balance if you did!) and are available at for 15.00$ a pair.

I really want to order some of these and see what fun things can be done with them! Makes you look twice, that’s for sure.

What do you say – would you wear it?

Product Spotlight: Goody Spin Pin

I would like to bring your attention to the best thing since sliced bread.

Goody really re-invented the wheel with their Spin Pin, and at first I was skeptical. However, after reading rave review after rave review, I finally picked up a pack. The verdict? Instant obsession.

The ones I purchased were actually the mini-sized spin pins that come in a set of 3. I have fine hair and don’t really require the larger spin pin. Plus, I figured they’d be a little more versatile for half-up styles…Although after my experience with these little buggers, I don’t think I’ll be able to resist buying the full sized double-set as well.

I started with using them to secure a twisted bun: no rubber band, just spin pins. While I used all three mini-sized pins for a low bun, I’m sure most probably only need one large one. I have a lot of slippery layers so it was useful to have all three of the mini-sized ones, twisted inwards at intervals like spokes on a wheel. This is the first time in my life I feel happy with a bun only done up in hair pins – hours later my style is still intact with no sign of letting up.

If you haven’t made the purchase yet – do it. Although they are a little more costly than your typical 100-pack of hair pins (6.49 at Walgreens for either two large or three mini-sized pins), they are definitely more bang for your buck. They are easy to use, don’t bend when faced with thick hair or tangled situations, and twist through your hair with ease. Plus, they stay put!!

Here are a few hairstyles I tried out, with descriptions of what I used to create them:

Low Bun: 3 Mini-sized Goody Spin Pins

High Bun: 1 hair band to secure back hair before twisting into bun, 3 Mini-sized Goody Spin Pins

Twisted Half-Up: 1 Mini-sized Goody Spin Pin How-to: Gather hair from either side of your hair, twisting slightly as you draw it back. Wrap these twisted strands around one another a few times. Holding the resulting twist against the head, spin a Spin Pin up the underside of the twist to secure.
