L’Oréal Campaigns for AIDS Awareness

Today, as you may know, is National HIV Testing Day in the U.S., established by the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA). On the campaign front for AIDS awareness is L’Oréal, who began establishing an international campaign for awareness among hairdressers back in 2005 when they joined forces with UNESCO. This initiative, known as Hairdressers Against AIDS, targets the salon industry across the globe to get involved in spreading the word about this still growing epidemic. The campaign has been most recently launched in the United States December 1st of 2010 on World AIDS Day.

The goal of this campaign is to get people talking about AIDS – starting with the massive international network of L’Oréal hairdressers.

According to the Hairdressers Against AIDS website:

– 33.4 million people are currently living with the HIV/AIDS virus, in the world.
– Only 40% of people are aware of their HIV status.
– 2.7 million new victims a year become infected, half of them young people and children.
– 2 million people die of the disease every year

Help the cause. Get tested and get the conversation going – Visit HairdressersAgainstAIDS.com for more on how to get involved.
