Kitchen Beauty: Avocado

I can never get enough avocado. If I’m ordering food and something has avocado listed in the description, I am instantly convinced I need to try it. Guacamole, slices of avocado on my burgers, avocado-topped sushi, you name it, I’m there! Well, enough of making you (and me) hungry…

Avocado has great benefits to both your hair and your skin as a conditioner.

This fruit is considered by many to be a super food. It is high in fat – the “good” kind, monounsaturated fat to be specific – as well as potassium, B-vitamins, and fiber. It is also scientifically proved to have natural bacteria-fighting components (for more on this wonder fruit, read these Top 5 Health Benefits). For all these reasons, avocado is great for you – inside and out. Check out these awesome recipes and make it part of your beauty regimen!

Avocado and Olive Oil Facial Mask

Ingredients

-1/2 Ripe Avocado

-1 Teaspoon Olive Oil (if you have dry skin)

This mask is great to soften and rejuvenate your skin. Cut an avocado lengthwise, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh. Mash the avocado flesh into a thick paste, and if you are prone to dry skin, add 1 Tsp of olive oil (the avocado alone is great for all skin types). Layer onto your face and leave for about 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Pat dry. (Recipe source)

Avocado, Banana and Almond Oil Hair Conditioner

Ingredients

-1/2 Ripe Avocado

-1 Ripe Banana

-1 Teaspoon Almond Oil (or Olive Oil)

This hair treatment adds moisture and shine. Cut an avocado lengthwise, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh. Mash the avocado flesh into a thick paste. Mash in the ripe banana, and stir in the Almond Oil until fully mixed. Apply to your hair from root to tip, covering all your hair completely. Let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse out in the shower with warm water. (Recipe source)
