Fringe Benefits: Choosing the Right Bangs for Your Face

Bangs have definitely made a comeback this year, and it’s looking as if this trend might be here to stay. Whether you have a round face or a long face, the right bangs can compliment anyone. It’s a relatively simple way to give your face a complete makeover.

Zelo’s got the guide to help you choose the right bangs for you.

I think one of the most striking celebrity bang transitions this year is Leighton Meester’s blunt bang. Blunt or Chinese bangs work for her because of her round face. The harsh line of bangs across her forehead creates a theme of angles on her otherwise round face. It brings out her amazing cheek bones and, overall, makes her face look longer and slimmer.

Taylor swift has definitely found the perfect bangs for her oval face. The much softer fringe (above), narrower at the forehead and sweeping downward softly around the eyes, is a vast improvement over her blunt bangs (left), which actually made her face look much longer than it actually is. If you have a long face, try to stay away from any blunt styles that chop your face in half. Go for these subtle, layered fringes instead.

Chinese bangs look better on fuller faces like Leighton or square faces like Lea Micheal.

Heart Shaped faces like Rihanna’s have wider foreheads and a very narrow chin. Full blunt bangs like the style above(left) look beautiful on her but draw attention to the width of her forhead. A side swept look balances her face much better.

Whatever style you chose, the fringes are a sure way to give your hair a sexy, edgier look.

Cheers!

Poof Proof Hairstyles: High Braided Ponytail

The summer humidity has come to an end for many of us, however, I personally still reside in an area where humidity does not let up just because fall has begun. I still turn to easy hair-do’s that I can trust to stay smooth far into the “winter” months, and here’s another one of my favorites:

the high braided ponytail.

It was Blake Lively who really made this look go viral.

It is the perfect look for a fancier night where you really want to make a statement. Simple, yet I do think it does have a unique edge to it – perfect to compliment a bold dress and a confident attitude ;) .

One of my favorite YouTube channels, LuxyHair, has created a video tutorial of the look:

It is very easy to do, however, if you don’t have long hair, you will most likely need to try using extensions to get the right length and thickness of braid. The LuxyHair tutorial shows you exactly where you want to place your extensions for this look.

Once you pull your hair back tightly into a smooth, mid-height ponytail, use your own hair to wrap around the base of the ponytail to hide your rubberband. Then, after adding a little gel or mousse to add some extra poof-proof power, braid in regular three-strand fashion all the way down to the bottom, securing with a band that matches your hair color.

To make it a little messy like Blake, alternate the thickness of your braid strands as you braid down, and just be a little sloppy with your technique!

Voila! You have a red-carpet worthy look that will surely stay put no matter what humidity, wind, or elements come your way.

Celebrity Hairstyles: Lea Michele

Last week and this week have been eventful for anyone who follows one of prime time’s most popular shows. Among all the amazing fall premiers, the beloved Glee has come back to Fox with more star power than ever. The one actress who is continuously in the spotlight? The lovely Lea Michele, who plays the ambitious Rachel Barry.

Lea always goes for simple, natural all-down hairstyles, and it’s obvious why. I don’t know how this gorgeous gal could evoke anything but hair envy (and just plain envy in general) in anyone’s hearts.

What do you think of this starlet’s long locks?
