3 60’s Hairstyles to Try This Spring (With Tutorials)

Break out the hairspray because 60’s hairdos have been a big trend on the red carpet and on the runway this year. Whether it’s messy volume or elegant sleek, I can’t get enough of these retro styles. Here are just a few of my favorite 60’s looks that are easy to do.

1. The Beehive

I’ve always been fascinated with this gravity defying updo and I’m making a prediction that it will be quite the trend this Spring. For a proper towering beehive, you’ll need more than just than a little backcombing. Our favorite hive filler is actually a bath loofa!

Here’s a step-by-step from A Beautiful Mess

2. The Bob With Bangs

Dianna Agron, Miley Cyrus, and Katy Perry are just a few celebs sporting bobs this year. If you’re like me and you’re not ready to commit to a haircut, you can always try this faux bob tutorial by our favorite hair blogger, Hair Romance.

Collette’s bangs are the easiest bangs to cut yourself. No need for a salon!

The trick to cutting these bowl-shaped bangs: is to section out a portion of hair for your bangs and comb it flat across your forehead (don’t bunch it all in the center).

Step 1: Depending on whether you’re left or right handed, clip the hair between your index and middle finger (you index finger should be flat against your forhead), and twist it 90 degrees (in the opposite direction of your hand) so that you’re now pointing to your forehead with both fingers. Hold the hair tightly and switch hands, keeping the hair in the same position. Now that you’ve got your hair in your other hand (index and pointer pointing to forhead), twist your hair in the same direction another 90 degrees. (Now your other index finger is against your forhead.

Step 2: Comb the ends of your hair so it’s flat and not bunched up at the center. Hold your hair tightly in your fingers and use the other hand to trim the hair in a solid straight line across. For Collette’s length you need to trim right underneath your brows. When you release your hair and comb it out you’ll have perfectly shaped bowl cut bangs that are shorter at the forehead and longer at the sides.

3. The Bump

Just when you though you’ve seen the last of Bumpits! While Snookie may have traded her infamous bump for a baby bump, big, voluminous hair is making a huge comeback. Backcombing can be a great tool when you already have thick hair but for girls with fine hair, there are tons of faux bumps, clips, and other styling tools available in your cosmetic store.

Here’s a quick, easy-to-do, tutorial to get that 60’s voluminous look. Cat eyeliner not included. :)

Now get to it before the trend’s over and you have to wait for the next 60’s revival! (lol)

Peace. Love. Zelo.
